Sketched itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro – Thimphu Sightseeing

Upon arrival in Paro, you’ll drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. Along the way, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, a 15th-century temple built by the famous iron bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo. In Thimphu, visit the Memorial Chorten, a prominent stupa dedicated to the Third King. Explore the Buddha Dordenma, a giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley, and the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and monastic body. End the day strolling through Thimphu’s bustling streets.

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing

Spend the day exploring Thimphu’s cultural landmarks. Visit the National Folk Heritage Museum to learn about Bhutanese traditions, and the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students master Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts. Stop by the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal, the takin. In the afternoon, visit the Handicrafts Emporium and the lively Centenary Farmers Market. Wrap up your day with a visit to Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest fortress.

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha Sightseeing

Drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,100m), offering stunning views of the eastern Himalayas. Stop at the Druk Wangyal Chortens, a collection of 108 stupas. Descend into the Punakha Valley and visit the Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Take a short walk to the Suspension Bridge, Bhutan’s longest, and enjoy the serene surroundings. In the afternoon, hike to Chimi Lhakhang, the “Temple of Fertility,” dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley.

Day 4: Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang – Gangtey Sightseeing

Drive to Wangdue Phodrang, stopping to visit the newly reconstructed Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Continue to Gangtey, a beautiful valley known for the Gangtey Monastery, an important Nyingmapa monastery. Visit the Black-Necked Crane Center to learn about the endangered cranes that migrate here in winter. Enjoy a walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the valley’s rolling hills and pristine landscapes.

Day 5: Gangtey – Thimphu Sightseeing

Return to Thimphu, passing through scenic mountain roads. On arrival, visit the Royal Textile Academy, showcasing Bhutan’s exquisite weaving traditions. Stop by the Changangkha Lhakhang, a historic temple perched on a ridge overlooking the city. Spend your evening visiting local cafés and craft stores or enjoying a traditional Bhutanese dinner.

Day 6: Thimphu – Paro – Excursion to Chele La Pass

Drive to Paro and continue to Chele La Pass (3,988m), one of Bhutan’s highest motorable passes. Enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Jomolhari and the Paro and Haa Valleys. If you’re up for a short hike, trek to Kila Gompa Nunnery, Bhutan’s oldest nunnery, nestled on a cliffside. Return to Paro and explore the town, visiting Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples.

Day 7: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Embark on a challenging yet rewarding hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), Bhutan’s most iconic landmark perched 900m above the valley. The hike takes about 4 hours round trip. Visit the monastery, believed to be the meditation site of Guru Rinpoche. After descending, enjoy a relaxing traditional hot stone bath in a local farmhouse or explore Paro town.

Day 8: Paro – Departure

Your journey in Bhutan concludes as you transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure, carrying unforgettable memories of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
